ADB Sale Recap: Magic Millions March & Adelaide

A busy and rewarding fortnight has just wrapped up across both the Magic Millions March Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast and the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale, with plenty of competition throughout both sales highlighting continued demand for quality and athletic types at all levels of the market.
The Magic Millions March Yearling Sale has evolved in recent years, with the format shifting from a QTIS-restricted catalogue to a broader, Australia-wide offering, opening the door to a more diverse range of pedigrees and types. This change has enhanced the depth and appeal of the sale, with graduates such as ADB selected The Instructor as well as "millionaire performers Hidden Wealth and Encoder as well talented juvenile Itchintogo"— highlighting its ability to produce quality racehorses capable of progressing through the grades.
Importantly, it’s also a sale I’ve enjoyed success with in recent years, having been heavily involved in the selection of the aforementioned The Instructor, along with a number of other progressive horses sourced from this sale, and it was particularly pleasing to see that momentum continue on the track during the week. Elusive Domina, purchased from this same March Sale in 2024 for only $27,000, broke her maiden impressively for trainer James Healy, while fellow graduates Ave Cantare (Rob Heathcote) continues to build an encouraging record with a win and metro placing from just four starts, and Cunnamulla Fella who has already developed into a multiple city winner and stakes performer.
March also saw another two ADB selections in the winners circle, including progressive 3yo filly So Enchanting (Inglis Classic) who broke her maiden in strong fashion, while Conchiero (Inglis Ready To Run) continued his consistent metropolitan form with another win.
On the other hand, the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale also continues to produce tough, durable and high-performing racehorses, with more recent graduates such as G1 stars Asfoora, Private Eye, Galaxy Patch, emerging stakes winner Eternal Warrior and last year's Magic Millions SA 2yo Classic winner Ole Dancer, highlighting the sale’s ability to produce high-class performers from accessible price points.
By again sticking to strict valuations and buying selectively, I was delighted to be able to secure three yearlings for clients and trainer partners across the two sales, all of which I believe represent excellent value purchases.

Magic Millions March Sale, QLD
Lot 44, Maurice x Almighty Girl colt
Vendor: Kenmore Lodge (As Agent for Arrowfield Stud)
Purchase Price: $22,500
Purchased for: Mitch Beer / George Carpenter Racing & Heywood Bloodstock
This colt is by outstanding international sire Maurice, a Group 1-winning champion and proven producer of elite performers including Australian Derby winner Hitotsu along with Group 1 winners across both hemispheres. Bred by the renowned Arrowfield Stud, one of Australia’s premier nurseries, he comes from a program responsible for producing some of the sport’s biggest stars including Redoute’s Choice, Dundeel, The Autumn Sun and Castlevecchio, adding further depth and commercial appeal to his profile.
He is out of Group 3 winner Almighty Girl who trainer Mitch Beer had a great association with. She was a sharp sprinting mare that has already produced multiple winners, and she descends from a prolific female family that includes Group 1 performers such as Personal along with numerous stakes horses throughout the page.
Physically, he is a late maturing type being a November foal yet he was a well-balanced colt with good athleticism and plenty of scope, and at $22,500 I felt he represented outstanding value given both his pedigree and type.
I particularly like securing November foals as they are often under-appreciated in the sale ring due to their relative immaturity, but they can represent outstanding value for patient owners as they physically catch up and improve with time. Mitch and his team do an excellent job developing these types and I’m looking forward to following his progress.
Magic Millions Adelaide Sale, SA
Lot 74, Acrobat x The Special Two filly
Vendor: Mill Park Stud
Purchase Price: $65,000
Purchased for: Private Client in partnership with Jess Tzaferis Racing
This filly is by exciting young sire Acrobat, a precocious and unbeaten son of Fastnet Rock who won his only start in dominant and record breaking fashion as a 2YO in the Inglis Nursery, showcasing elite natural speed and early maturity. He hails from the outstanding “Hips Don’t Lie” family, one of the most prolific and commercial female lines in the Australian Stud Book, responsible for multiple Group 1 performers and high-class sprinters. Plus, she was secured from the draft of Mill Park Stud, one of South Australia’s leading nurseries, renowned for producing multiple Group 1 stars on the track including Benedetta, Booker, Warning, Goldrush Guru, Princess Coup, Attrition, Fawkner, Happy Trails... the list goes on.
Her dam The Special Two is already a 100% producer of multiple winners, including the stakes-winning Pride Of Shalaa and this filly's 3/4 sister in blood in multiple City Winner Ballynora, while the deeper family contains elite performers such as Champion race mares Bonneval and Champagne, giving her a strong pedigree foundation.
She was a filly we were very keen on throughout inspections — athletic, well-balanced and with a sharp, fluent action having also scored in the top % in the sale on our Biometrics data analysis with Metrics Equine — and we were thrilled to secure her. She looks ideally suited to Jess’ system and I’m excited to see how she develops.
Magic Millions Adelaide Sale, SA
Lot 365, Sejardan x Miss Stralia filly
Vendor: Caithness Breeding
Purchase Price: $20,000
Purchased for: Private Client in partnership with Jess Tzaferis Racing
LADIES SYNDICATE
This filly is by Group-winning 2YO Sejardan, a precocious son of Sebring who displayed elite speed and class at two, winning the Group 2 Todman Stakes along with the Breeders’ Plate and Red Anchor Stakes, and has all the makings of a sire capable of producing sharp, early-running types. Unfortunately, he had passed away late last year so this filly will be part of the first of only 3 available crops by Sejardan.
Her dam Miss Stralia is from a deep and proven female family, highlighted by Hong Kong Champion Galaxy Patch, along with multiple stakes performers and consistent metropolitan winners. The family has shown an ability to produce both precocity and durability, giving this filly a strong pedigree foundation with plenty of upside plus, she is bred on a high rated blood cross, similar to that of multiple Group winner Daises and another Stakes Peformer in Motown Lil (Sebring over Snitzel).
Physically, she was one of the standout value buys of the sale — a very athletic filly with great balance and presence, and importantly she also rated highly across the board in our biometrics analysis with Metrics Equine, reinforcing the quality we saw on inspection. And as another November foal, she still has natural physical improvement to come, which made her particularly appealing given the value we were able to secure.
At just $20,000, we felt she represented outstanding buying and she shapes as a filly with plenty of upside. She will be raced as an all-ladies ownership horse, targeting the Magic Millions Women’s Bonus Series in South Australia, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing her join the Acrobat filly above in progressing through Jess’ system.
One of the most rewarding aspects of these sales is the opportunity to consistently identify value horses capable of outperforming their purchase price, something we’ve already seen this season with a number of recent runners coming through — and something I’m hopeful these latest purchases can replicate.
